ZIZ News...January 26, 2010 - The St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party has been elected to a fourth consecutive term in office with one seat less following a stunning election victory at the polls defeating the main opposition party the People’s Action Movement by six to two when the vote count ended just before nine o’clock this morning. In Nevis the Concerned Citizens Movement was able to capture two of the three seats with Mark Brantley returned as the representative for Nevis 9.

On their way to winning the 2010 General Election the leader of the main opposition party Lawyer Lindsay Grant went down to newcomer Glen "Ghost" Phillip of the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party and the only female candidate standing for general election on St. Kitts Lawyer Marcella Liburd also won her seat by defeating Roy Angus Flemming of the People’s Action Movement.

Meanwhile following a close contest in constituency number one the incumbent Dr. Earl Asim Martin was able to retain his seat.

In constituencies 3, 6 and 7 it was a convincing win for the Labour Party candidates and for Vance Amory of the Concerned Citizens Movement who was declared the first winner in the 2010 General Election.

The lone parliamentarian for the People’s Action Movement Shawn Richards was able to retain his seat after defeating Dr. Norgen Wilson of the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party. 

The last two constituencies to be called very late in the morning were numbers 8 and 9. Eugene Hamilton of the Peoples Action Movement will now join his colleague Shawn Richards in parliament after taking the seat from the incumbent Cedric Liburd of the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party.  

It was celebration time at the constituency offices as the Labour Party supporters held a mini motorcade to celebrate another election win. As is expected today is been declared a public holiday on the occasion of the victory of the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party at the polls on Monday.

Prime Minister Designate the Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas will make a statement to the huge crowd gathered at the Central Basseterre constituency office of Marcella Liburd who has won her seat in the General Election.
